Character History: Jane Kirk | James Kirk
AU History: Jane grew up in a world where every major figure and player in world history is gender-swapped. She grew up under a matriarchal setting with men and women on even footing and a lot of that shapes who she is now. Not even a full hour after she was born, her mother took command of the Kelvin and rammed it up the bunghole of a Romulan mining ship and saved 800 lives, leaving Jane with her heart-broken dad and an older sister, Sam, who sometimes resented the shit out of her because she didn't have the good sense to stay inside Georgia long enough to save their mom's life. So when Sam broke for freedom when Jane was 10, she took out her aggression the only way she knew how, balls-to-the-wall crazily.
Her dad didn't know how to handle sticking around with just Jane to look out for, Jane, who by the day looked more and more like his dead wife, so he took off into space more than once. When Jane was 12, he dumped her on her aunt and uncle and incidentally into the middle of one of the worst genocides the Federation had witnessed in decades.
Jane's life spiraled out of control and left her with nowhere to go by the time Pike walked into that bar. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Personality: Cocksure and confident, Janey Kirk is Captain Fine. She struts about, commands attention and generally gets into brawls because screw you that's why. If you move and breathe, Jane's likely to flirt with you for the hell of it. She's brash and loud and doesn't like taking 'no' for an answer.
The darling of Starfleet, Jane is and knows she is the poster girl for all that's good and awesome in the Federation (even if she thinks that's bullcrap). She actually is adept at diplomacy, despite what a lot of people seem to think, is fluent in multiple languages and can adapt to situations in a snap when it means someone life is in danger.
And she's had to. She always had to even as a little kid. Jane is a survivor. If she didn't have her bravado and charm, then what exactly is her purpose? She jumps at dares and pretends things are fantastic because she doesn't want to expose her soft under-belly and yeah, she has one of those. Big time. Her guilt complex? It's terrifying and only the brave should dare go near it.
Jane's spent a hell of a long time trying to prove her own worth. Living in the heroic shadow of a dead mom, a crazy-piston of a father and a step-mom who liked to yell and make lewd comments more than, you know, be a mom, Jane is constantly pushing herself to be a better person. She's smart without being arrogant about it, something she likes to hide because she always gets a tiny little kick out of flabbergasting people who think they're smart as shit only to be out played by her. She hurts easy, bruises where people might not think to look, and finds it really hard to know who to trust for the long haul. And it isn't because she doesn't want to trust people either.
She's got mommy issues, daddy issues and abandonment issues that are light years in length and she's still pretty damn certain they only gave him the Enterprise because Pike pulled a ton of weight with the other Admirals and leaned heavily on the sympathy card. (She did. And it burned more than Jane ever dared think it might when they took it all away from her.) She doesn't always feel worthy of the accolades she receives, and would rather just keep pushing onward than stop and acknowledge the good that's been done.
Jane is an all right kid. She's kind and funny and gets into stupid situations with other people all the time and then only puts their safety first. She's compassionate and headstrong and it's probably going to get her killed entirely too young.
And yes, she's got one hell of a temper when pushed too far. Watch out for her passion because it's absolutely contagious and could very well lead you down the path to hell.
All she wants to do now is help people. It's pretty simple. She wants to explore and discover and grow into the epic destiny that was unexpectedly dumped on her head.
Dying? That only made that feeling stronger.
Powers/Abilities: When not totally drunk or already injured, Jane is proficient at hand-to-hand combat, a good shot with projectile weaponry and has a very tactical mind.
Possessions: Jane arrives with a tricorder, phaser and communicator.
Arrival: Jane, with all her infinite good luck, was beaming down to a newly discovered planet with a full-away team. Well, she certainly arrives at a planet unknown to the Federation, but it's not the one she's meant to be on.
